The “Wednesday” Team

We have a group of volunteers who traditionally meet every Wednesday, come rain or shine. They dedicate their time, and work tirelessly to maintain the riverbanks on our club waters. Their main focus is on the Midford, Wellow and Cam Brooks, all of which flow through the stunning countryside and valleys between Monkton Combe, Midford and Wellow, just south of Bath.

They come together to ensure that these wild and unspoiled streams remain accessible and well-maintained for fellow anglers. Their tasks range from building and maintaining rustic access points—including steps and ladders and ropes and posts that allow safe entry to the water. Also, the removal of fallen trees that might obstruct the natural flow or hinder fishing. These small but crucial efforts help preserve the charm of our fishing beats while ensuring that they remain safe and fishable.

As a collective, we take great pride in our stewardship of the rivers, balancing the needs of anglers with the preservation of these precious habitats. Working with nature, rather than against it, we use sustainable and traditional methods to improve and protect without disturbing the wild beauty of the banks. Their efforts are driven by a shared passion for the sport and a deep respect for the waters we fish. It’s not just about work—it’s about camaraderie, friendship, fresh air, and giving something back to the rivers that have given us so much over the years. The other tradition is, they always end their day in the nearest local hostelry, for a well-earned pint and a cheeky bowl of chips!

Members are welcome to join the team, and to add, the team also go out on other days as opposed to just a Wednesday.
